COMTICS uses an IP-based system architecture at protocol level with central conference and role management as its voice and data switching system. The associated CT@ST terminal acts as an intuitive interface and bundles all functions in a robust device. Each user automatically receives access to exactly those communication circles that belong to their respective role. External systems can be seamlessly integrated into the existing overall system via standardised protocols such as VoIP or via interfaces such as the focon IP extension. Voice data is transmitted via a redundant on-board network that combines packet-oriented Ethernet services using TDMA for access control at the transmission layer to ensure loss-free and low-latency transmission even under high network load.
The security module contained in CT@ST and certified by the German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) allows the strict separation of parallel communication streams with different confidentiality levels in the same terminal. This results in a user-friendly and at the same time secure system architecture that ensures reliable communication across the entire spectrum of modern naval vessels, even under demanding conditions.
Apart from the classic CT@ST terminal, which is available in different versions for different locations on board, mobile versions of the CT@ST, such as smartphones, are also available in addition to stationary terminals abroad.
